Fly into Warsaw Chopin (WAW), usually via Frankfurt, Amsterdam or a Middle Eastern hub. PKP intercity trains link Warsaw–Krakow in about 2.5–3 hours; Auschwitz and Wieliczka are day trips out of Krako…
Land at WAW and reach a hotel near the Old Town by S2 suburban train or taxi, about 30 minutes door to door. Buy and validate a ZTM ticket before boarding, since inspectors do check.
Walk the rebuilt Market Square and its mermaid fountain as the facades light up. Weekday evenings are calmer than weekends, and the surrounding lanes have pierogi spots for a first dinner.
Follow the riverside promenade past the mermaid statue and the stadium footbridge. The path is flat and lit, and in summer the food kiosks stay open past 22:00.

Visa rules depend on your passport. US, UK, Canadian, Australian and Japanese travellers can usually enter Schengen visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180. Other nationalities, including Chinese passport holders, need a Schengen visa before travel. Check Poland's official visa page for your case and passport validity rules.
May, June, September and October give the mildest walking weather, roughly 12-22 C, with manageable crowds and lower hotel rates than July and August. December markets are atmospheric but daylight is short. Auschwitz is an exposed outdoor site, so avoid the coldest and wettest weeks if you can.
PKP intercity trains link Warsaw and Krakow in about 2.5 to 3 hours, and both old towns are walkable from the station. Auschwitz-Birkenau and Wieliczka are day trips from Krakow by regional train or bus; check current timetables the day before, as return services thin out in the evening.
Book guided Auschwitz-Birkenau slots online several weeks ahead in peak season, and bring the passport or ID matching the booking name. Wieliczka tours also sell out in summer and around holidays. Reserve both before you fix your Krakow dates, then build the rest of the itinerary around those timed entries.
