Three days in Istanbul cover Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace, before an early flight to Cappadocia for cave hotels, sunrise balloons, the open-air museum and und…
Clear immigration and follow signs to the M11 metro in the arrivals hall. Load an Istanbulkart at the machines, then ride toward Gayrettepe and change for Sultanahmet; the whole transfer takes about 90 minutes.
Drop bags at a small hotel on the cobbled streets behind Sultanahmet Square, then ask the desk for a district map. Most properties hold luggage before the official 14:00 check-in if you arrive early.
Follow the seafront promenade south from Sirkeci past the fishing lines and tea stalls as the sun drops behind the Galata skyline. The walk to Yenikapi takes about 40 minutes one way, so carry water in summer.

April to June and September to October are the sweet spots, with temperatures around 15-25 C across all four stops and the best chance of a Cappadocia balloon launch. July and August bring 30-40 C heat, and December to February means cold, wet sightseeing in Istanbul. Book shoulder-season dates early, as cave hotels fill first.
Budget roughly $1,350-2,090, about 1,170-1,820 euros, per person excluding international flights. That covers mid-range hotels, internal flights, the night bus, site tickets and daily meals. Add extra for the balloon flight, which is usually priced separately, and for a flight instead of the Cappadocia-Izmir night bus.
It depends on your passport. Many nationalities, including US, UK, EU, Canadian, Australian and Japanese holders, get 90 days visa-free within any 180-day period. Others need an e-Visa or consulate visa. Check the Turkiye visa section and the official e-Visa site before booking flights, and confirm your passport is valid beyond your stay.
Internal flights are fastest: Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevsehir for Cappadocia, then Izmir for Ephesus and Pamukkale. This route also uses an overnight bus from Cappadocia to Izmir, which saves a hotel night but is tiring. Book flights early in peak season; buses and the Izmir-Pamukkale transfer can be arranged a few days ahead.
