The Piccadilly line runs direct from Heathrow to Leicester Square in about 50 minutes. Contactless cards work at the barriers, and the daily cap applies automatically.
Loop past the streets used in British cinema and television, from Dean Street to Berwick Street market. The area is compact and best walked at dusk, when the neon signs come on.
Book a corner table a few days ahead, as Soho fills quickly after office hours. Set menus before 19:00 are usually better value than the full a la carte list.

Both are easy on the Tube. Notting Hill Gate serves Portobello Road and the streets used in the film, while Paddington station is on the Elizabeth line and several Underground lines. Go early on a weekday for quieter photos, and check whether Portobello Market day, usually Saturday, suits or crowds your visit.
A car is the simplest way to link the two villages, since buses are infrequent and both sit off the main rail line. By train, take the Great Western service to Chippenham or Bath and continue by taxi or local bus. If you drive, book a car with an automatic gearbox early and avoid village centres at peak times.
May to September keeps village lanes, castle grounds and Lake District paths open and comfortable, with long daylight for driving between stops. Lacock and Castle Combe are busiest at summer weekends, so visit on weekdays. Spring and early autumn are quieter and often photogenic, but expect showers in the Lakes.
Budget around $1,790–2,690 (about €1,560–2,340) per person excluding international flights. That covers mid-range hotels, National Rail between London, York and Edinburgh, a few days of rental car for the Cotswolds and Lakes, and entry to paid sites. Fuel, parking and one-way car fees are often underestimated.
