Land at VIE, clear passport control and take the S-Bahn S7 or the City Airport Train to Wien Mitte. Validate your ticket before boarding; the CAT costs more but runs nonstop in 16 minutes.
Walk the tree-lined boulevard from the Burgtheater past the neo-Greek Parliament and City Hall. The buildings are floodlit after dark; tram lines 1 and 2 run the same loop if your feet give out.
Catch an opera or ballet in the house on the Ringstrasse, with surtitles in English on seat screens. Seated tickets vanish early, but standing room is sold cheaply at the box office about 80 minutes before the curtain.

Book seated tickets weeks or months ahead for popular operas, especially in the April-June and September-October season. Cheap standing places are sold at the box office on the day and cost only a few euros, but queues form early. Check the opera's official programme before fixing your dates.
Yes for the core sights. Five days covers the Hofburg and Sisi Museum, a full Kunsthistorisches Museum day, the Belvedere's Klimt collection, the MuseumsQuartier and Stephansdom. It does not leave room for day trips to Melk or Bratislava, so treat this as a city-only trip.
April to June and September to October give mild weather with the full concert and opera season running. July and August are hot, around 25-30C, and many locals leave, though festival programming continues. December is atmospheric for Christmas markets but the busiest and priciest month.
Expect about $1,050-1,500 (roughly EUR 910-1,300) per person excluding flights, based on comfort-level hotels near the centre and paid museum entries. Opera seats and a day of guided tours push costs up. Booking shoulder-season weeks and using Vienna's tram and metro passes keeps the total down.
