Fly into Vienna (VIE), then take the OBB rail link: 25 minutes to Baden bei Wien for the thermal baths and Beethoven's house, then 3.5 hours to Bad Gastein's high-altitude thermal springs and waterfal…
Clear passport control, take the S-Bahn or CAT to Vienna, then a regional train south to Baden in 25 minutes. A Vienna region day pass covers the whole trip; validate it at the platform machine before boarding.
Walk the spa gardens past the flower clock and the Rudolfshof, with the Vienna woods rising behind. The park is free and open until dusk; the adjoining casino opens in the evening and requires smart-casual dress.
Eat at a Heuriger on the edge of town, with new wine and cold plates of cheese, ham and spread. Heuriger hours are irregular, often only a few weeks a year; call ahead or ask the hotel which ones are open.

Swimwear is required in the main thermal pools at Baden and Bad Gastein. Some sauna and nude areas follow their own rules, usually posted at the entrance. Bring a towel, flip-flops and a robe if your hotel does not supply them, and allow time to shower before entering the pools.
May, June, September and October are the calmest months, with mild weather and fewer guests than the July-August and December ski peaks. Bad Gastein sits high in the mountains, so even summer evenings are cool. Many spa hotels sell half-board packages in the shoulder months.
OBB rail covers the whole route. Vienna to Baden takes about 25 minutes, Baden to Bad Gastein roughly 3.5 hours with a change, and Bad Gastein to Salzburg about 1.5 hours. Book spa hotels near the station so luggage transfer stays simple.
Budget roughly $1,350-2,090 (about EUR 1,170-1,820) per person excluding flights. That reflects comfort-to-wellness hotels, often on half-board, plus thermal bath entries and rail tickets. Treatments and the Gastein thermal cave are extra. Quiet-season packages in May-June or September-October offer better rates.
