Clear immigration, then ride the Airport Express to Kowloon Station in about 21 minutes for roughly HK$105. Buy an Octopus card at the airport counter first; it covers the MTR, ferries and convenience stores.
Drop your bags, then walk Nathan Road from Jordan down to the harbour to get your bearings. The side streets between Nathan Road and Canton Road hold the cheaper noodle shops; keep the Octopus card out for a tram back.
Walk the Avenue of Stars promenade east from the Clock Tower, then stay for A Symphony of Lights at 20:00, about ten minutes of coordinated lighting on both skylines. Stand near the Star Ferry pier for the widest angle.

Hong Kong runs its own immigration system, separate from mainland China. Many passports, including UK, EU, US, Canadian, Australian and Japanese ones, get visa-free visits of up to 90 days, but the list changes and some nationalities must apply in advance. Check the Hong Kong Immigration Department website for your passport before booking flights.
October to December brings the most comfortable weather, roughly 18-25°C with low humidity, which suits outdoor sections like the Avenue of Stars and Victoria Peak. January to April is cooler and can be foggy, while May to September is hot, humid and inside typhoon season. If you travel in summer, do the Peak and harbour walks early morning.
Peak Tram queues can exceed an hour at midday, especially at weekends and during the October-December high season. Book a timed ticket through the operator's official website a few days ahead, then go at the first departure or after 5pm. Clear evenings give the best skyline views, so check the visibility forecast first.
Take the MTR Tung Chung line to Tung Chung, then the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to the Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, about 25 minutes. Cable car tickets sell out on clear weekends and holidays, so book online. Local buses also run from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping when the cable car closes for maintenance.
