The trip opens in Marrakech, drives south to Merzouga for a private-camp camel arrival with candle-lit dinner and stargazing, then returns to Marrakech and continues west to Essaouira for the medina,…
Arrange the transfer through the riad so a driver meets you at arrivals with a name board, and a porter carries bags from the car. Fixed taxi prices are posted at the rank; skip drivers who approach inside the hall.
Find a rooftop cafe with a view of the Koutoubia minaret and order mint tea or a fresh juice as the light goes. Terraces fill 30 minutes before sunset; reserve a rail table if you want an uninterrupted view.
Book a courtyard table for a set menu of salads, tagine and pastilla, with lanterns on the fountain. Riad kitchens cook to a fixed service, so arrive on time, and flag any allergies when you reserve.

Book two to four months ahead for October to April, the peak stargazing and honeymoon window, and earlier around holidays and full-moon weeks. Private camps with ensuite tents and candle-lit dinners have few tents and sell out. Confirm what is included: camel or 4x4 transfer, dinner, breakfast and whether alcohol is served.
October to April gives cool, clear desert nights ideal for stargazing, with mild days. December and January nights can approach freezing, so choose a camp with proper bedding and heating. Avoid July and August, when daytime heat is extreme and many camps scale back. Spring brings wind and dust; autumn is calmer.
Most couples hire a private driver, since the drive to Merzouga takes around nine to ten hours with stops over the Atlas. Returning to Marrakech is another long day, then Marrakech to Essaouira is about three hours west. Splitting the desert drive with a night in Ait Benhaddou or the Dades Valley is easier.
Plan for roughly $1,500 to $2,240 per person at honeymoon level, excluding international flights. That covers a luxury desert camp, riads, a private driver for the long desert legs and meals. Upgrades such as private dinners, spa treatments and a sea-view room in Essaouira add on; booking transport and camp together can lower rates.
