Fly into Warsaw (WAW). Days: Warsaw Ghetto Heroes monument, Umschlagplatz and the POLIN Museum of Jewish History, the Old Town and Uprising memorial, then the evening PKP train to Krakow for the Kazim…
Clear entry at WAW and reach the centre on bus 175 or the S2 train, both about 30 minutes. A single ZTM ticket covers the ride, and the machines in the arrivals hall take cards.

Order gefilte fish, beetroot soup or goose at one of the small restaurants near Grzybowski Square. Book ahead for Friday evenings, when tables fill early, and check whether a service charge is included.

Entry depends on your passport. Many Western passports, including US, UK, Canadian, Australian and Japanese, get 90 days visa-free within Schengen in any 180-day period. Chinese and some other passport holders need a Schengen visa arranged in advance. Confirm current rules and ETIAS status on the official EU or Polish consulate site.
April through October is the most comfortable window, with May and September offering mild temperatures and thinner crowds. Auschwitz is largely outdoors and exposed, so summer heat and winter cold both bite. Book your guided memorial slot weeks ahead whichever month you choose.
Treat the site as a memorial: dress modestly, keep voices low and avoid posed photos at sensitive points. Wear comfortable shoes for long gravel paths, carry water in summer and layers in winter. Guided tours run in several languages and should be booked online in advance, especially April to October.
Generally yes. The route uses trains rather than long drives, and both old towns are flat and walkable. Auschwitz involves several hours on your feet, so plan a quiet evening after. Choose hotels near the old towns to cut daily walking, and allow extra time at the POLIN museum if mobility is limited.
