The trip opens with three days in Athens — the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Syntagma Square, the Ancient Agora and the Temple of Olympian Zeus — before a short flight or ferry to Santorini for the Oia…
Buy a three-day tourist ticket at the airport station and ride Metro Line 3 into the centre, then walk five minutes into Plaka to drop your bags. Trains leave every 30 minutes until late evening.
Follow the car-free lanes below the Acropolis from Syntagma towards the Roman Agora, scouting tavernas for later. The polished marble paving is slippery, so wear shoes with grip.
Order shared mezedes, grilled octopus and a carafe of house white at a Plaka taverna. Reserve a courtyard table earlier in the day if you want to eat before 21:00 without waiting.

Greece follows standard Schengen short-stay rules. US, UK, Canadian, Australian and Japanese passports can usually enter visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180. Other nationalities need a Schengen visa before travel, and ETIAS registration is being introduced for visa-free visitors. Check the Greece visa section for your passport.
May to June and September to October are the most reliable windows: 22-30°C, thinner crowds and lower prices than midsummer. July and August bring 30-35°C heat plus the meltemi, the Aegean wind that can suspend fast ferries. Whatever you choose, keep the spare day this itinerary builds in.
A high-speed ferry takes about two hours from Santorini to Mykonos, and fast ferries also serve Crete, though schedules thin outside June to September. Domestic flights are quicker but add airport transfers. Book ferry seats as soon as your dates are fixed, and allow a buffer for wind cancellations.
Budget about $1,790-2,690 (roughly €1,560-2,340) per person excluding international flights. That covers comfort-level hotels, internal ferries and flights, and everyday meals. July and August can push island rates 50-80% higher, while May, June, September and October bring better value.
