Buses and trains leave Budapest for all three towns. The HÉV suburban train reaches Szentendre directly, while Visegrád and Esztergom are served by bus or train from Nyugati station. Summer river boats also link the towns, but services are seasonal, so check timetables before relying on them.
It is tight. Visegrád's citadel and Esztergom's basilica each need a few hours, and Szentendre deserves an afternoon of wandering. Splitting them over two days, as this itinerary does, leaves time for the basilica and the citadel views without rushing between buses.
Seasonal boat services between Budapest, Visegrád, Esztergom and Szentendre generally operate from late spring to early autumn, with more departures in July and August. Confirm sailing days on the operator's site before planning a day around a boat, and keep a bus or train as backup.
Mostly yes. Szentendre is flat and easy to walk, and Esztergom's basilica and square can be seen without climbing the dome. Visegrád's upper citadel sits on a steep hill, so check shuttle or road access before committing. Bus journeys are the main strain, so spread visits over two days.
