Arrive in Budapest and cross the Chain Bridge to the Buda side for Castle Hill, Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion, then Pest's Heroes' Square, Great Market Hall and Danube evening cruises.
Take bus 100E from Terminal 2 to Deák Ferenc tér, then walk to your Pest hotel. Buy the airport ticket at the machine before boarding, and leave bags at reception if the room is not ready before 14:00.
Walk the Chain Bridge from Széchenyi Square to the Buda abutment as the lights come on, then follow the Pest embankment past the Parliament. Allow two hours and wear shoes with grip; the deck is cobbled and windy.
Sit down for a bowl of goulash and a plate of túrós csusza at a cellar restaurant off Váci utca. Book a table after 19:30 to avoid tour-group seatings, and note that many kitchens stop taking orders by 22:00.

April to June and September to October are best, with mild 12–22°C weather, fewer crowds and lower prices than July and August. Winter is quiet but cold, at roughly -5°C to 5°C, and suits museum-heavy days better than long walks on Castle Hill.
Plan for roughly $1,940–2,840 (about €1,690–2,470) in comfort-class spending, excluding international flights. That covers a mid-range hotel, castle and church entries, public transport, a thermal bath visit and a Danube cruise. April–May and September–October keep costs lower.
Central Pest and the Danube bank are walkable, but Castle Hill and Gellért Hill involve long climbs, so use the funicular or bus 16 up to Buda Castle. Trams 2 and 19 along the river are the easiest way to link sights; buy tickets or a travel card before boarding.
