Take bus 100E or a pre-booked minibus to the city centre, then check in and rest before the evening. Keep your passport handy for hotel registration, which is required for all foreign guests in Hungary.
Cross the Chain Bridge at dusk and walk the Pest embankment past the Parliament, then loop back through Széchenyi Square. Allow two hours and watch for cyclists on the shared riverside path.
Book a table at a Pest borozó for a flight of Hungarian wines with dinner, starting with a dry Furmint and finishing with Tokaji. Reserve ahead on weekends and ask for smaller pours if you plan an early start.

Direct trains run from Budapest Keleti to Eger in roughly two hours, and onward connections reach Tokaj in about two and a half hours from the capital. Book seats on the Hungarian railway site a few days ahead in summer. Eger and Tokaj lie in different directions, so return to Budapest in between.
May to October is the practical window, when estate cellars and terraces are open and the weather suits walking between vineyards. September and October overlap the harvest, when some estates run picking events. Winter visits are possible, but many small cellars close or take appointments only.
Book estate tastings directly, especially in Tokaj where many cellars are small and run by appointment only. Eger's Valley of the Beautiful Woman has walk-in tasting rooms, but reserving a table avoids weekend queues. One or two tastings a day is realistic if you travel onward by train.
Budget around $1,640–2,390 (roughly €1,430–2,080) in comfort class, excluding international flights. That covers mid-range hotels in Budapest, Eger and Tokaj, train tickets, several guided tastings and meals. Tasting fees rise with the number of wines poured, so set a limit per estate.
