Fly into Penang and spend the first afternoon walking the UNESCO old town. Day two pairs Khoo Kongsi clan house with the Clan Jetties. Day three visits Kek Lok Si temple before flying home.
After immigration, book a ride-hailing car from the arrivals exit for the 30-minute run into George Town. Traffic thickens after 16:00, so leaving promptly keeps the afternoon free for the old town.
Follow the shophouse terraces from Lebuh Farquhar past the courthouse and St George's Church to Armenian Street. The route is flat and free; start late in the day when the light softens and the heat drops.
Try Penang Hokkien mee, a prawn-broth noodle soup, at one of the long-running stalls on Lebuh Presgrave. Arrive before 20:00 when the broth is freshest, and order a side of lor bak to share.

The Clan Jetties are private homes on stilts, not a museum. Walk quietly, ask before photographing doorways or residents, and stay on the boardwalks. Chew Jetty is the busiest and most commercial, while neighbouring jetties are calmer. Buying from jetty stalls or leaving a small donation supports the families who live there.
Cover shoulders and knees at both sites, and keep a light scarf or sarong in your bag. Shoes come off inside prayer halls at Kek Lok Si. Khoo Kongsi is a clan house with an entry ticket, while Kek Lok Si is an active temple on a hillside reached by stairs or an inclined lift, so wear comfortable shoes.
Yes. The UNESCO core zone is flat, and Khoo Kongsi, the Clan Jetties, Armenian Street and the waterfront fit into two days of walking. Kek Lok Si sits outside the centre and needs a Grab or local bus, roughly 30-40 minutes. Start early to dodge the midday heat and carry water.
Budget about $450-670 per person excluding flights, with a comfort hotel in or near the old town. Entry to Khoo Kongsi and Kek Lok Si is modest and hawker meals are cheap. Old-town rooms cost more than suburban ones, and the June-September dry weeks book up earlier, so reserve ahead for that window.
