Fly into Penang and open with a street-art walk through George Town. Day two is a Kimberley Street food crawl. Day three is a restful Batu Ferringhi beach afternoon. Day four departs.
Clear the small international terminal, then take a ride-hailing car to your George Town hotel in about 30 minutes. Agree the pickup point at the arrivals exit, since drivers cannot wait at the kerb.
Trace the best-known wall paintings and steel-rod sculptures around Armenian Street and Lebuh Ah Quee as the heat eases. The walk is free and flat; bring water and expect short queues at the most photographed corners.
Ease into Penang food with char kway teow and wan tan mee at a Chulia Street coffee shop. Order drinks from the shop that owns the table, and keep small notes ready because most stalls do not take cards.

Yes. Most hawker stalls and coffee shops in George Town take cash only, and cards work mainly in restaurants and hotels. Withdraw ringgit from bank ATMs in the city centre rather than relying on airport kiosks. Some stalls accept QR payment apps, but as a visitor do not count on it.
Penang works year round, but June to September is the drier spell and the easiest for long walking-and-eating days. September to November brings short afternoon showers, so keep an indoor hawker centre as backup. Chinese New Year is worth checking, as many family-run stalls close for several days.
The old town is flat and compact, and most murals, clan houses and Kimberley Street sit within 20 minutes on foot. Start early and carry water, as the heat builds by mid-morning. Use Grab for the Batu Ferringhi beach afternoon, roughly 30-40 minutes from the centre, and for the airport.
Around $520-820 per person excluding international flights, based on comfort hotels in or near George Town. Hawker meals are inexpensive, so most of that goes to the room and the Batu Ferringhi afternoon. A cooking class or heritage-house entry adds extra, and small notes help at stalls.
