Fly into Split (SPU) and out of Dubrovnik (DBV): a snorkelling boat day out of Split toward the Blue Lagoon, a ferry to Hvar for sea-kayak loops and free paddleboarding, then on to Dubrovnik for a kay…
The airport bus runs to the main bus station every 20 to 30 minutes and costs a few euros, while taxis charge about ten times more. Buy the ticket at the desk outside arrivals before boarding.
Walk the Riva and pick up any missing mask, snorkel or water shoes from the dive shops near the ferry port. Shops close around 20:00 and sizes run out in August, so buy early if you need fins.
Eat at one of the konobas facing the ferry port, where the fish is landed early each morning. Ask for the daily catch and confirm the price per kilo before ordering, as bills can climb quickly.

June to September gives the clearest, warmest Adriatic water, and the Blue Cave and Blue Lagoon boat routes run through the season. July and August are busiest and hottest, so book trips and kayak hire ahead. May and October are quieter but the sea is cooler and some operators wind down.
Travel light: catamarans link Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik, but bulky gear is easier to rent locally than to carry. Book the Split to Hvar crossing and the Hvar to Dubrovnik catamaran in advance in summer. Some Dubrovnik kayak tours start near Pile, so choose a hotel within walking distance.
Croatia applies Schengen short-stay rules. Many passports, including US, UK, Canadian, Australian and Japanese, enter visa-free for 90 days in any 180, while other nationalities need a Schengen visa before travel. Check the Croatia visa section for your nationality and confirm passport validity for three months beyond exit.
Many guided wall circuits suit beginners on calm days, but they cover several kilometres of open water, and operators set minimum ages and swimming requirements. Children usually ride in a double kayak with an adult. Check sea and wind forecasts, wear the provided buoyancy aid and book a morning slot when the water is flattest.
