Arrive and open with Gyeongbokgung's guard ceremony. Day two pairs the Changdeokgung Secret Garden with Jongmyo. Day three walks Bukchon hanok village before departure.
Clear immigration and take the AREX express into Seoul Station, then continue by subway or taxi to your hotel. The express takes about 43 minutes; buy a T-money card on arrival so later subway trips are quicker.
Watch the guard-changing ritual in front of Gwanghwamun, with drums, banners and traditional uniforms. Ceremony times shift with the season, so check the palace site that morning; the square is free to enter.

Yes, wearing a traditional hanbok normally grants free admission to Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung and other royal palaces. Rental shops cluster near Gyeongbokgung and Anguk station, with hourly and half-day rates. It is cheapest and most comfortable outside midsummer heat.
Reserve as soon as your travel dates are set. Tours run on fixed schedules with a capped number of visitors per slot, and spring and autumn weekends fill fastest. Book on the official palace website; the tour is outdoors and includes some uneven, unpaved paths.
Three days is enough for Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung with the Secret Garden, Jongmyo and Bukchon, which is how this plan is built. Add a day if you want Deoksugung, the National Museum or a slower pace, since palace grounds involve a lot of walking.
April to May and October to November are ideal: mild temperatures, clear skies and either cherry blossoms or autumn colour in the palace courtyards. July and August are hot and humid with heavy rain, and December to February is cold, though palaces are quieter then.
