The Aerobus takes about 35 minutes and stops at Placa Universitat, a 10-minute walk from most Eixample hotels. Tickets come from a machine at the stop or by tapping a contactless bank card on board.
Walk Carrer Montcada to the Picasso Museum, which holds his early Barcelona studies in five medieval palaces. Book the timed slot online; Sunday afternoons from 15:00 are free but the queue is long.
Follow the seafront from the Port Vell to the Barceloneta sand for the last light. The beach is loudest near the bars at the south end; walk north toward the Olympic port for space and a calmer view.

The Prado runs free entry in the early evening, roughly 18:00-20:00, but the queue can take an hour or more. If your time is limited, buy a timed ticket instead and use the free slot only if you are nearby. The Reina Sofia and Thyssen also have their own free windows, so check each museum's official site.
Tower access is capacity-limited and often sells out weeks to months ahead, especially in spring and autumn. Book on the official Sagrada Familia site, choose a morning slot to avoid afternoon heat, and note that tower lifts have age and mobility restrictions. Casa Batllo and Casa Mila interiors also benefit from advance timed tickets.
This route uses both: three days in Barcelona for Gaudi's buildings and Park Guell, then a 2.5-hour AVE to Madrid for the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen. Fly into Barcelona and out of Madrid to avoid backtracking. Book the AVE in advance and stay near the Gothic Quarter and Atocha respectively.
April to June and September to October give mild 15-25 C weather, which keeps museum interiors and walking between galleries comfortable. July and August bring 28-35 C heat in both cities and heavier crowds. Winter is quieter and cheaper but cooler, with rain more likely. Shoulder months balance both.
